Tips on how you can reduce your energy bills...

Improve the insulation

Whether it is adding insulation to pipes, storage tanks or improving the existing insulation in your loft, it will certainly help keep your heating bills down. This is because it reduces the amount of heat getting lost, keeping your home warmer for longer than normal.

Upgrade your windows

Heat often gets lost through the windows, having double or triple glazing can help keep your home warmer, this is because the gap between the glass panels traps the heat!

Install a smart thermostat

A smart thermostat will allow you to track your energy usage better. You will have better control over your heating and are able to update the settings from any device, as long as you have data or are connected to Wifi.

Service your boiler

This is one of the most important things you can do to help reduce the costs of your energy bills. The reason for this is that when you get your boiler serviced, a heating engineer will thoroughly test and inspect your boiler to ensure it is working efficiently and safely.

Reduce the temperature of your water.

Have you ever noticed that the water coming from your faucets is too hot to touch? Then you're probably squandering gas and money. Reduce the water temperature in your boiler a few degrees until you achieve the ideal temperature.

You should be able to lower the temperature of the hot water that comes out of your taps and shower heads, which will help you save energy over the course of several weeks and months. It's certainly worth moving the dial down a notch if your hot water might be somewhat lower.

Turn on the heating only when necessary.

Along with understanding when to switch off your heating permanently, be aware that it is a fallacy that you should leave your heating on low all day. Whether you use a timer or switch it on manually, be sure your heater is only on when you need it or you'll be wasting money.

Remove your sofa from the area of the radiator.

Large pieces of furniture should be kept away from radiators to keep the warm air moving. You'll have to heat your home for longer if you don't. 'Moving your sofa even six inches away from the radiator will allow heat to flow much more effectively across the room,' says Holly Herbert of webuyanyhouse.

'You could save up to 10% on your bills.' The more room there is between the furniture and the radiators, the better.'

Examine your energy bills

Unfortunately, switching energy providers to find a better bargain has become nearly impossible since Ofgem began raising the energy price cap. While savings are unlikely, it is useful to understand the distinction between standard variable and fixed rate energy tariffs.

If you're ready to exit a fixed-rate tariff contract, investigate how to switch energy suppliers or call your current supplier to ensure you're on the optimal tariff for your home's energy usage and compare it to competing providers.
