Boiler checklist for new homeowners
You have a lot on your plate as a new homeowner. It's a busy and stressful period, from chasing down solicitors to wrangling with movers, and the last thing you need is a faulty boiler in your new house. So, use our new homeowner's boiler checklist to ensure your boiler isn't causing you any further issues!
Homeowners' Boiler Checklist
Identifying the type of boiler you have
Is your new home equipped with a combi, system, or regular boiler? A combi boiler is frequently tiny and wall-mounted, with no external tank, making it very easy to recognise. A storage tank is used to store hot water in a system or a normal boiler.
To distinguish between a system and a regular boiler, if the cold water tank is put in the loft, you have a regular boiler.

Is the boiler working?
Check to see if the boiler is in good working order. This can be accomplished by performing a brief visual inspection. There are a few things to keep an eye out for, including:
- Are any error messages displayed on the boiler's screen?
- Does the heating or hot water work normally?
- Is the pilot light turned on?
- When was the boiler put in?
It can be difficult to locate the answers to the questions above, and sometimes the best thing to do is to ask the former homeowner.
Knowing the specifics of the boiler
Identifying crucial data regarding your new home's boiler, such as the brand and model, is a smart idea. Finding the manufacturer is usually simple; there's normally a badge on the front of the boiler. The model can be a little more difficult. A data label should be located someplace on the boiler, but this varies by manufacturer.
Next, check to see if the boiler is still under warranty. Again, this will be determined by when and who built the boiler.
Finally, you should inquire about the boiler's servicing history. A boiler that is serviced on a regular basis is less likely to fail than one that is not.
