How to check the efficiency of your boiler [2022]
Increasing the efficiency of your boiler can help save you a lot of money. Heating your home accounts for over 60% of your energy bills; the more energy efficient your boiler is, the less money you'll spend on heating. We go over a few things you can do to check your boiler's efficiency.
How do I figure out how efficient my boiler is?
The first step to finding your boiler's efficiency is to look for a label with an energy efficiency rating on it. This is relatively easy to find if you have a new boiler as the efficiency rating is commonly printed on the boiler or the package it came it.
If you have an older boiler that has the sticker peeled off, there are a few more things you can do to find the efficiency rating.
Finding the energy efficient rating on an older boiler
For an older boiler, you'll need to figure out the model number for your boiler. Simply look behind the boiler, where the pipes exit is located, and underneath the front flap, where the dials can be found and you will be able to see a small label or plate with the model information.
A brand name, such as Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Baxi, or any number, will appear on the label. Along with the brand, there will be a model number, which is usually a number referring to the boiler's size, such as Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i. Once you have found the boiler number, you can search it up to see how efficient your boiler is.
What if I cannot find the model number?
When model numbers and information are placed on the boiler, they can often fade over time. Another reason could be that you may have lost or misplaced the original documentation that came with your boiler. This makes it difficult to find the energy efficiency rating for your boiler.
